The former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), ahead of the partys presidential primary slated for this weekend in Abuja.

This was revealed vide a letter he addressed to the Party’s National Chairman, titled: “Resignation from Peoples Democratic Party and Withdrawal from Presidential Contest”.
Obi is one of the 15 aspirants who had declared their interest in the presidency under the PDPs platform.
His exit, coming on the eve of hotly-contested presidential primaries, came as the politician reportedly expressed fears that he might be humiliated at the convention, saying he caught wind of a gang up against him.
He did not immediately disclose his next platform.
The development is expected to put additional spotlight on the PDPs primaries, where Obi was initially seen as a front runner in a race that includes Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, Dele Momodu, Bukola Saraki and other bigwigs.
A spokesman for the PDP did not immediately return a request seeking comments.
A source familiar with the development said the former governor feared he might not do well at the convention, despite his widespread popularity and fame amongst everyday Nigerians.
In the letter to the party chairman, Obi appreciated his membership, and left open future collaboration in service to the country.
